Breakout Sessions


Breakout sessions will explore particular issues related to different grade spans around Next-Generation MCAS.


Breakout Session 1: Grades 3-5

Mary Lou Beasley, Mathematics Test Developer for Grades 3-5

This sessions will provide an overview of the new test designs for the 2017 Next Generation MCAS. Similarities and differences between the 2016 MCAS tests and Next Generation will be discussed along with calculator restrictions, new item types, and demonstrations of some technology enhanced items.

Breakout Session 2: Grades 6-8

Simone Johnson, Administrator for Mathematics Test Development


This session will provide an overview of the new test designs for the 2017 Next Generation MCAS. Similarities and differences between the 2016 MCAS tests and Next Generation will be discussed along with calculator restrictions, new item types, and demonstrations of some technology enhanced items.

This session will discuss preliminary ideas for the Next Generation grade 10 MCAS.

Questions to be addressed include:

To what extend does high school competency depend upon pre-high school standards?

What securely held knowledge is important?

Which high school standards are better suited for large scale assessment?
