Lesley University is proud to announce our 2nd annual Summer Mathematics Institute, and we would be honored if you consider to be a part of it.  The Institute’s Theme is Problem Solving Using the Structure of Mathematics, and we plan to conduct 6 sessions from each of the middle school and secondary school grade bands, over the course of the 3 day Institute (Tuesday July 29 through Thursday July 31, 2014).  In addition to these 2½ hour sessions, Dr. Anne Collins, Director of Mathematics Operations at Lesley University, as well as James Tanton, founder of the St. Marks’ Mathematics Institute, and Jim Matthews, professor of Mathematics and Mathematics Education at Siena College, will each present a 60 minute general session.

We are anticipating dynamic, hands-on workshops where rich problems model the mathematical practice to Make Sense of Problems and Persevere in Solving Them.  Each speaker will deliver his/her presentation at both the morning and afternoon time slots so that all participants, at each level, will be able to benefit from the same excellent mathematics modeling experiences.
